About Michelle

Hello i’m

Michelle Deon Lee

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and relocated to Colorado in 1992.

With over 30 years of dedicated public service, I have had the privilege of working with diverse populations to create a lasting and positive impact within our community. My experience includes developing and implementing police policies and procedures at both the state and federal levels, ensuring safety, accountability, and the protection of constitutional rights.
In addition to my public service, I am a seasoned entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience owning and operating a successful business. I have partnered with franchise organizations and possess a comprehensive understanding of economic development processes — from obtaining SBA loans to overseeing full build-outs in commercial spaces. I am well-versed in securing city and county permits, licensing, and navigating regulatory requirements to bring new businesses to life from start to finish.
Throughout my career, I have served the senior community, supported People Living With AIDS (PLWA), fostered children, empowered individuals with developmental disabilities, addressed mental health needs, and collaborated with the incarcerated population. These experiences have given me a compassionate perspective and a deep understanding of the unique challenges many individuals and families face.
I am committed to promoting justice, equity, and constitutional protections by listening to all voices and working collaboratively. I believe in the power of community engagement and the importance of ensuring that policies, ordinances, and laws reflect fairness, accountability, and equal protection for all.

Why I Stand for Civil Rights

Driven by Faith and a Call to Serve

My faith has inspired me to step into leadership and service for my community. I am community-driven, motivated by a deep sense of purpose and a passion to make a meaningful difference. I believe in the power of faith, hope, and action to create positive change. My commitment is rooted in love, compassion, transparency, and accountability — ensuring that systems meant to serve the people operate fairly and justly. I am dedicated to listening, leading with integrity, and advocating tirelessly to ensure every resident’s constitutional rights are respected and protected. Together, with faith and unity, we can build a stronger, more just, and more equitable future.

“We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity.”
Community Engagement

Building Trust Through Dialogue

A recent meeting with Commerce City’s Police Chief reflects my longstanding commitment to strengthening relationships between the community and law enforcement. With decades of experience in developing public safety policy, I understand that true security is built on trust, transparency, accountability, and open communication. I believe in a future where residents and public safety leaders work together as partners — where dialogue is consistent, responsibility is clear, and constitutional protections remain at the forefront of every decision. This is the kind of principled, community-centered leadership I bring to civil rights advocacy.

Global Advocacy

Partnering for Human Rights Education

Extending my commitment to human rights beyond local borders, I recently met with Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, President of Youth for Human Rights International. This meeting was a powerful convergence of shared missions—to educate, empower, and equip the next generation with the tools to defend the rights of all people. Dr. Shuttleworth’s global perspective on fostering dignity and respect aligns deeply with my own work here at home. Our dialogue focused on the critical importance of human rights education as the foundation for safe and equitable communities. Just as trust must be built between residents and law enforcement, a universal understanding of human rights must be cultivated within our youth. This partnership reflects my belief that lasting change requires both local dialogue and a broader educational commitment. By working with global leaders like Dr. Shuttleworth, we can bring best practices in human rights advocacy back to our neighborhoods, ensuring that the principles of justice and equality are understood and upheld by the next generation of community leaders.
